Instructions for PIPOLINO®-M

For kittens: refer to instructions for PIPOLINO®-S here

PIPOLINO®-M is a mobile adjustable distributer for dry feed (croquettes, pellets) for cats.

It was conceived by a Veterinarian, in total respect of a cat’s ethology, with a view to providing health and well-being through a naturally playful approach.

Initial use

To optimise usage, remove all sources of feed (feeding bowls), and do not provide any form of snacks during the initiation (the cat must be hungry in order to use the dispenser).

  • Set the maximum debit, and using a screwdriver, release the locking screw, and set to 12 openings (holding one end of the PIPOLINO®-M and rotating the other end), in order to motivate your cat , and allow it to discover how to use the PIPOLINO®-M.
  • Screw back without forcing the thread
  • Release the lid located at one end of the PIPOLINO®-M by rotating it anticlockwise, then extricate it from its lodging, and half-fill the distributer with your usual croquettes.
  • Replace the lid in its lodging and turn it clockwise until it is firmly secured.
  • Place the PIPOLINO®-M on the floor, close to where the feeding bowl usually rested, with one end resting against the wall, and the other end resting a few centimetres away from the wall.

  • Drop a few croquettes between the wall and the PIPOLINO®-M.
  • Leave the cat alone for as long as possible, allowing it full access to the PIPOLINO®-M.
  • Wait for the cat to go and seek the croquettes and move the PIPOLINO®-M.
Care: Never roll the PIPOLINO®-M in front of the pet to get it started. Do not shake or move the PIPOLINO®-M for the pet.
A period of adaptation is sometimes necessary ( up to about 48 hours ): be patient, and never scold in the event of failure; leave the pet alone trusting its capacity to adapt; it is with recalcitrant cats that one can observe the most striking results with a PIPOLINO®-M !

In the event of difficulties:

During the adaptation period, ensure that the cat does not stay more than two days without feeding. To avoid such a problem, place ¼ of a daily ration of croquettes between the PIPOLINO®-M and the wall, and check to see whether is feeding. If the cat still does not feed, repeat the above but reduce the angle between the PIPOLINO®-M and the wall, each time also reducing the quantity of croquettes deposited.

You may also place the PIPOLINO®-M in the feed bag in order to impregnate it with its scent.

After the period of adaptation:

Once the cat starts using the PIPOLINO®-M regularly, gradually reduce its debit to the minimal position in order to achieve maximum exercise before being replete. During the adaptation period, should croquettes remain uneaten on the floor, then reduce the number of openings.

Once the adaptation period is over, add feed to the PIPOLINO®-M before it becomes empty, preferably each evening, thus avoiding feeding anxiety (except in the event of your absence: maximum 4 days for 1 cat).

Should the slight rolling noise produced by the PIPOLINO®-M disturb your sleep, the dispenser may be placed out of the cat’s reach without any risk.

Care: ensure that clean water is made available to fully satisfy demand. Avoid placing the PIPOLINO®-M on any furniture: the cat may go and seek it, causing it to fall and damage.
Should you own more than one cat, proceed as above. In almost all cases other cats will follow the example of the first successful feeder. Should you wish to add a new cat, it will imitate earlier incumbents based on observation, without your having to repeat the introductory process. Care: no more than 5 cats for one PIPOLINO®-M.

Technical details

  1. Rubber treads suitable for food contact
  2. Debit rate adjustment lock screw
  3. Setting mark
  4. Setting positions
  5. Outer openings
  6. Lockable lid

Your PIPOLINO®-M comprises 2 independent concentric cylinders, one imbricated in the other, each with an assortment of openings, which allows rotation to achieve variable debits of feed.

There are 5 basic settings (12 openings, 8, 4, 2, 1) identified by bars of different lengths located along the outer rim of the outer cylinder. The longest bar corresponds to 12 openings, and the smallest bar to a single opening. The selected bar should be placed against the arrow situated by the locking screw.

The double bars located next the longest bar correspond to a single opening with a reduced diameter for the smallest debit for use during replenishments, as well as for the smallest debit with particularly small croquettes.

The diameters of the openings are 14 mm (4 openings), 12 mm (2 openings), and 10 mm (1 opening). Ensure that the croquettes being used fit freely through the selected openings.

Recommendations & restrictions

Société PIPOLINO declines all responsibility for damages resulting from the non-compliance with these instructions.

The PIPOLINO®-M may be used with any type of croquettes on condition that they are of a diameter which is smaller than that of the openings selected.

Do not use the PIPOLINO®-M on gravel, surfaces with debris, or any surface soiled with toxic products.

To obtain optimum functionality, the P-M must be placed on an even surface, such as tiling, carpeting, or the bottom of a container.

You may restrict the surface of usage in order to limit the distance of movement, or place the PIPOLINO®-M in a rectangular container such as a litter receptacle (length > 40 cm, width > 25cm, height: 8 to 15 cm). Take care not to drop the dispenser from a height.

For weakened or skinny cats, set the debit so as to limit the time of ingestion, thus optimising recovery (setting 4).

Gestation and lactation

The frequency and length of feeds should not be restricted during gestation and lactation. Only the quantity (and /or quality) of the feed should be increased during lactation compared to normal feeds.

  • Do not allow young children to play with PIPOLINO®-M.
  • Do not use the dispenser with moist feeds, under the rain, in snow, or on icy surfaces.
  • Do not use the PIPOLINO®-M in the event of locomotion problems. In such an event or in the case of illness consult your Veterinarian to determine whether to continue using the PIPOLINO®-M.
  • Do not use the PIPOLINO®-M with a blind, paralysed, or wounded cat.
